Body Piercing FAQs
Do you do "Freehand" style piercing?
No. The practice of "freehand" piercing without the use of forceps or other available engineering and work practice controls violates OSHA Standard 29 CFR 1910.1030(d)(2)(i), an important provision of the bloodborne pathogens standard which requires that engineering and work practice controls shall be used to eliminate or minimize employee exposure. Additionally, the accuracy and efficiency of the piercing procedure are minimized when there is no securing device, such as a forcep or clamp.
Can I bring/use my own jewelry?
No. Our initial piercing jewelry is selected on the basis of tolerance, material make-up and texture quality. All of our jewelry is ISO or ASTM certified and we maintain metal certificates for every vendor we buy from. Because we cannot verify the same standards in your jewelry, we cannot guarantee the safety of it, therefore do not allow clients to bring in their own for initial piercing, but we will allow you to bring in your own jewelry for changing out healed piercings.
Can I have my piercing stretched?
Yes. We will taper your piercing up to the next size, so long as we feel there is minimal risk of tearing or blowout.
How many piercings can I get at once?
We normally do not recommend that a person get more than four piercings in a day. While there are some exceptions, your body requires a certain amount of energy to properly heal injuries, and typically, more than four piercings done at a time can be taxing to your body and slow your recovery and healing time.
Do you numb the skin before piercing?
No. Topical anesthetics are rarely, if ever effective for body piercing. The application of the needle is so brief that it is unnecessary to use anesthetic in the first place. Injectable anesthetics, such as Lidocaine cannot be administered by anyone who is not a licensed health professional and there are risks involved with its use during body piercing procedures.
How does a microdermal anchor stay in your skin? Does it require surgery to remove?
Microdermals have a tiny foot that acts as an anchor under your skin. The jewelry we use has a series of holes in the foot that allow biological material to grow through over time, securing the anchor even more. With proper care and diligence during the healing process, your microdermal can be as permanent as you want. Microdermals are easily removed by your piercer and do not require surgery to remove.
Do you do surface piercings?
Many surface piercings, such as the nape of the neck and the hips, are highly likely to migrate or reject completely from the skin and causing unsightly scarring. The procedure can also be traumatic to the skin, which can lead to longer healing time, infection and bruising. We prefer to use microdermal anchors to acheive the same effect with much less trauma and minimal chance of rejection.
